Well, the first full day has ended with us safely in San Francisco. Rather than repeat what Mike said, let me make some of the observations through my eyes.
- It was nice to take Mom out to the game on Saturday. She has loved going to Mariner games over the years, but it's been a long time since she was able to go.
- Rules. We have to have rules for the car. The first rule is whoever is driving gets to control the radio. I requested that we have XM radio, which makes things a lot easier to bear on long trips. After we let Mom out, it was time for Mike to control the radio, as he was the first driver. But he doesn't know XM radio as well as I do. We settled on the 70's station to start the drive. There was some complaints from the back of the van.
- First time headphones were hauled out - slightly before Olympia. It was a tie between Shawn and Steve.
- I am a huge UW fan, so making our first gas stop in Eugene was not my idea. And I was kidding about making any obscene gestures to the Duckies. At times, it's not a much fun being a grown up.
- It was a long trip between Eugene and Yreka. We had the nightowls keep me company, so I didn't get too bored. We have a rule (again with the rules) that at least two people must be awake at all times, with one of them being the driver. Shawn was zonked out shortly after we made the Washington - Oregon border. Steve got a quick nap in southern Oregon, and I slept for a few hours after Steve took over the wheel. Mike napped while Steve was driving, but Shawn kept Steve company, as did the flipping between any number of hard rock stations on XM. Curse those rules. I did stay awake until we saw Mt Shasta. It is very beautiful. It's no Mt Rainier, but it sure beats any mountains in Texas.
- We made San Francisco with plenty of time before the game started. I was really looking forward to this game, as it featured Tim Lincecum, former great Husky pitcher. And I was looking forward to seeing AT&T Park. It is indeed a beautiful park, much more scenic than Safeco Field. Very impressive indeed. The game itself was not great, as Texas beat up Tim Lincecum. He's really struggling this year.
- I am looking forward to getting a good night's sleep. We have a relatively short day tomorrow, with a night game at Dodger Stadium.
This is a great post by Pat, I was laughing the entire time, keep the great post coming.
